Takes place in the world of Faerûn.
The king of Thesk looked down from his throne upon a crowd that had gathered before him. The sun was bright in the sky, it was mid afternoon. A servant rushed to the king and knelt by him. The King cleared his throat then pointed to the ground. Instantly the servant fell to his hands and knees and crawled so he was places by the Kings feet as a stool. The King propped his feet up onto the servant with a pleased smile as he looked back out to the crowd, They were all settled in the city of Phent. The king finally spoke his voice raised among the crowd before him strongly and sternly. "I have called upon this gathering to offer to work to those in need." He took in another deep breath and kicked the servant foot stool and rose to his feet as the Servant scrambled away. "I require some volunteers to travel to Icewind Dale to assist in war, They have threatened this land for the last time and I will not stand by taking no actions no longer." A snarl crossed his face in repulsion and anger. His eyes scanned the crowd as many hands were raised excitement rose through the air. "There is also many battles on the way to this location and rumor has it they have wyverns and Dragons on their side. This will not be to much trouble for our mages though, as I do expect." To the mention of such beast all the hands went down as if it was Q'ed. The King sighed. "Very well, have it that way." His eyes scanned the crowd and pointed to a girl hidden in a black cloak. Her black hair hung down through the hood as she opened her emerald eyes to look at the King. "You, I demand to know your name." Sage nodded Briefly as she replied. "My name, well my name is Sage Katteiar Sir." The king smiled and nodded to her. "Well Sage are you willing to take on such a tas..... Never mind Doesn't matter if you are willing or not you will report to me at moon fall." He then turned his Gaze to another being and pointed. "As will you. If you do not come to accept this task my Paladin guards will hunt you down and behead you." Sage nodded as the King Turned around and walked to the entrance of the castle behind him. He turned around looking at the Two he chose once more then the doors shut behind him.
Sage shrugged her shoulders and made her way to the Bluestar inn. She Pulled a Key from her cloak and unlocked the door of room '68' and entered it. She shut the door behind her locking it before she started to pack up a few things in the room getting ready for the journey the king has bestowed upon her and some stranger.

Nex stared at the closed castle doors for a short while as the crowd around him dispersed. He got a few hard pats on the back from the citizens for having to go on the mission. Looking down and shaking his head with a scowl he mumbled to himself. "Well that teaches me from walking in on public meetings when I just walk into town." Turning around he went to an in near by the bluestar. Down a few blocks just in the next district of town there was an in called the Red Rex. He collapsed on a bar stool and ordered a mead that he would nurse until moon fall. He hadn't even been in town long enough to get a place. Sitting with his head down a bit he grumbled to himself. "This mission if completely pointless, it won't help at all."

Sage closed her small back pack and threw it under her cloak and onto her back. her long cloak hid the back pack well it was unnoticeable unless someone was to know it was there and then really look. She looked outside the sun still high in the sky. They had till Dawn to get to their destination and meet the king. Sage shrugged her shoulders and left the room. On her way past the front desk she threw the owner the key and nodded to him. He motioned her to him and she obeyed. He then leaned over the counter to whisper to her. "I honor the mission you have to go upon, here your stay was on the house." He then slipped her back the money she paid him a couple nights ago and nodded. Sage gladly took it and nodded to the man. She slipped the money into her cloak and left the Inn to find a restaurant to eat at.

After wasting an hour at the bar Nex stood up and paid the bartender. Shrugging his shoulder his large bag slid down his arm. Laying it on the ground he rummaged through it for a moment looking at his supplies. With a heavy sigh he closed it and walked to the market district. He had planned on over the next week replenishing his supplies but seeing as this might be his last time in town for a while he would have to do it now. It wasn't like the king was going to give him supplies. Moving vendor to vendor he looked at add goods and trinkets at he gathered the necessities. He also happened upon a small dark magic shop. seeing he had everything he walked in and browsed the entire store. The only thing that interested him there was a medium sized book. It was bound in black leather with in small golden letters inscribed Deadric Law. Intrigued he bought it. It was surprisingly cheap as no one was interested in such a thing or even knew what it was. Walking out of the shop stowing it in his deep pocket he wandered his way towards a restaurant.

Sage looked around curiously. She had no idea where anything was. She spotted the man that the king pointed out before when calling upon them to do the quest. She took in a nervous breath not sure weather to go and chat or just avoid him till it was time to meet the king. She thought maybe it would be to awkward to just walk over to him and greet him, maybe he didn't even remember he was assigned to her almost like her side kick, at least that is the way she seen it. She had introduced herself and he did not which made her feel in lead. She looked around and stepped off to the side hoping to be able to circle around the man and avoid him completely. Maybe go find a citizen to talk to and ask where she could find a good meal. She nodded to herself thinking that was the best plan. She looked around and grabbed the nearest random person. "Hello there do you know where a place is I may eat?" The person was well over a foot taller then herself but their size did not intimidate her as she looked up at them and asked her question.

Nex had eventually found a small tucked back restaurant. It had a homey feel to it and seemed like it would cook the type of meals a mother would make. Sitting in a booth by the window he ordered the special and waited. As he waited he lazily looked out the window and happened to catch a glance at the girl that he was forced to be on a mission with. Curious he watched her as she talked to a rather large fellow. He could tell she was confident but he had seen how confidence has led good people to their deaths.

The large man grunted down at her and turned away for a quick second looking into the window where Nex was watching from. An evil glint lit his eyes as he curled him right hand into a fist. Sage felt confused at why the man just turned and asked again. "Hey you... Giant person, Where is the Restaurant... you know.... that place where people sit and order food?" She let out a sigh. "Of course not... Broad and no brain of course." The large man let out another more violent grunt as he turned to her and quickly punched in her direction. Sage seen it coming and moved her left foot back and sprang into a backwards flip with a twist in the air she landed crouched on the ground one hand in front of her to keep her balance. "Okay, okay... I will leave you alone then." She said as she stood to her feet and walked in the opposite direction. The smile crossed the larger mans face as he also walked away in opposite direction of her.

Nex raised his eyebrow at the brute's actions and chuckled as he didn't hit her. Nex didn't know the full situation and that he was making it so she didn't meet him. As she walked off he was just a tiny bit disappointed her didn't get to meet her yet. But it didn't bother him to much for they would definitely meet later and would be forced to stay together for who knows how long. Just at that moment him meal came and he paid the waitress.
Nex took his time eating and after about 20 minutes he finished and walked out. The sun had lowered in the sky and he shrugged trying to think of something to do to pass time. Deciding it was worth a shot he walked in the direction that Sage left in. Looking around he walked slowly.

Sage left the gates of the city giving the guards a polite nod. "No worries boys... I will be back in time for the king." The guards let out a chuckle and nodded to her as she exited. She found a nice shaded tree near a small pound not far from the gates, she was still in sight of the guards as they were still in sight to her. She smiled and sat down against the tree skipping a couple rocks across the pond. She pulled out her back pack and opened it. She then pulled out a small folded up fishing poll. With effort the poll was unfolded and baited. She caste the baited line into the pond hoping she would have luck in catching her own meal possibly, she was to nervous to ask another to help her guide her in the right direction of the restaurant from how the other guy reacted to her. Who knew maybe everyone had some freaky psychic connection and knew how she treated him and would try to get her back in revenge of insulting one of their own. Sage always had a way to seem paranoid but she never looked at it as if she was paranoid, she just thought it was how things seemed to work these days. She was best at coming up with the worst case scenarios and making up excuses why she shouldn't need to do things. She once convinced one of her old schooling teachers that a Dragon ate her homework, in these worlds it wasn't uncommon to come across that excuse among children.

Nex eventually grew bored of looking for her and what he saw as wasting his time. Thinking of something to do he looked around for a quiet secluded spot. After searching for 5 minutes he grunted in annoyance. 'Of coarse the city of the king would not have a quiet spot. People bustling everywhere.' He thought to himself as he walked to the city gates. Planning on sitting in a small grove of trees he saw down the trail he made it to the gates. Walking out of them a large guard roughly grabbed his arm. On instinct he raised his hand and held if a few inches from the mans throat. Lightly hovering around around his fingers was a black aura that was tinged blood red and a toxic green that almost shimmered and sparkled. As he held the man two other guards pointed long spears at him ordering to let go. Slowly he moved his hand back and kept them visible. The guard that grabbed him initially grunted at him, "We are under specific orders to not let you leave the city in case you shirk the duties the king assigned." Glaring at the man Nex growled out, "I'm not and idiot willing to test the powers of the paladins, I was just going into the forest for a bit." The guard shook his head and said, "You're staying where we can see you." Sighing roughly Nex pointed to a few trees near a peaceful looking pond. "I'll be there then." Not seeing Sage because from his angle she was behind a tree he walked over and leaned against the tree blocking her from his view. He still had no clue she was there and because of his anger didn't really sense her.

There was a big tug on her line as she jerked it back quickly so it jerked the hook into the Fishes mouth. She reeled it in and pulled out a nice sized salmon. With a smile of satisfaction she took the hook out from its mouth and leaned the Fishing pole against the tree behind her. Sage pulled out a mat from her bag and lied it down across the ground and put the fish upon it. it was about 2-3 feet long. She pulled up her knee so her right foot was planted on the ground as the other was tucked under neither her. She then reached over and pulled a dagger from a belt attached to her leg. Still smiling she cut open the fish and started to remove all the wasteful not so edible things inside of the fish.

Grumbling still Nex had pulled out his book on Deadric Law and was reading through the introduction. He at first heard the splashes of Sages fish and ignored it thinking it was just a large fish jumping. He continued to read as she laid the fish down and got ready. When he heard the sound of the dagger cut through the scales as she gutted it he closed the book and tucked it into his cloak. He had to be cautious with it because most people would hear the word deadric and panic and think him evil. After it was securely away he slowly leaned around the tree and looked at Sage at work. Watching her diligently gut the fish he waited until she was done. He said in a calm tone "Hello Sage Katteiar.

She quickly jumped to her feet in a defensive stance the dagger in hand guts in the other. She noticed it was only the man from before. She sighed slightly and grumbled without speech. The fish guts in her hand automatically dropped as she became calm almost instantaneously. She then turned and kicked the guts into the water for the other fish to feed upon. She glanced back at the man for a sec then shrugged. Looking down was a small fire pit that had been built and already dried out branches and wood was in it. Sage wiped the dagger on her cloak and placed it in her leg band and with a snap of her finger from the side a purple aura formed over the branches for a second and then they were a flame. Two sticks were not far from hand as she stood them up next to the fire and places the mat atop of them flatly. The fire started to warm the mat and cooked the fish. Sage wasn't sure how to respond to the 'visitor'. She stayed back to him as she blushed slightly watching the fish cook.

Watching her actions with interest he slowly moved over around the tree coming next to her. Deciding to be a gentleman he held out his hand and said. "The name is Nex Umbra. A pleasure to meet you." Nodding his head to the fire he said "That was some pretty impressive elemental magic you did there."

She looked back at him crouched down leveled with the fire then looked at his hand and shook her head. "I don't shake... I am not some dog." With a smirk she looked back to the fire hoping she did not offend him. She felt nervous by now but abit more calm. She looked back out across the pound to see the setting sun. It was almost all the way gone you could just see a glimmer of orange and pink the sky. She watched this beautiful sight but felt abit tired. She wanted to eat then rest up before it was to late. She knew she had alot of journey ahead of her and she must be prepared from day 1.

He waved off her concerns with a chuckle. "Everyone is different, do not fret with customs." He then decided to flatter he added, "I was but going to be a gentleman and kiss your knuckles." After the formalities were over he followed her gaze to the setting sun and sighed lightly. "Quite a beautiful sight is it not?" He asked with the corners of his mouth up turned. As she looked away he looked her over familiarizing himself with hos soon to be partner. It ran through his head that she was a pleasant looking girl, a bit shy but confident from her behavior. He also made sure to note that she was powerful. To be able to start a fire from scratch was powerful fire magic. She was definitely well versed in her arts. It was common to have fire control and being able to take a spark and turn it in to a raging flame. But from nothing it was very impressive.

Somewhere in the world of Faerun.
A statue of man surround by many artifacts, began to shake and crumble away. It finally stopped shaking leaving a man standing in a dark armor, great sword on his back and red cape. "Its good to be free again," yelled Commodus as he began to stretch. Commodus stopped stretching and looked around. "Same old place, well lets get out of this blast rat hole and see what this world looks like." Commodus stepped out of the crumbled rocks and walked to a sealed doorway. Commodus placed his hands on the door and pushed it open. A huge gust off wind came bursting in knocking Commodus to the ground. "That wind gets me every time," thought Commodus as he got to his feet and brushed himself off. Commodus looked up after finishing brushing himself off, and say a huge forest completely surround the room. "Wow a lot has changed in a hundred years." Commodus took his first step out of his followed by the second. "Time to find civilization," said Commodus as he withdrew his blade from his back and placed on his shoulder. Commodus started to walk forward hoping to find someone.

Sage couldn't help but to smile at how polite Nex was being. She finished cooking the fish to a golden brown. She tore off half of it and offered it to him. Her eyes watching him, studying him. The sun had fully gone down by now but there was light that shone from her eyes almost like a cat or nocturnal animal. She blinked and the light was gone from her eyes.

Polity he declined the large portion of fish and said, "Eat up, I have already eaten and we have what I expect to be a rather long tedious trip ahead of us." As he spoke of the trip he sighed with a worn sound to it. He noticed the light gleam in her eye but didn't comment. Leaning back against the tree he watched her out of the corner of his eye but mostly stared at the fire crackling away. Almost out of no where he added. "Sorry about the uncomfortable silence. I would ask questions and get to know you better but why bother take conversation time away from when we are on the road?"

Sage glared at him for declining the fish and let out a small snort. She placed it back over the fire and pulled out the dagger from her leg band. She then started to cut up the other peice of fish. Once it was all cut up to perfect squares she took her dagger and stuck it into a peice and used her dagger as a fork to eat the fish. She smiled in approval of how it tasted as she continued to eat her meal now iggnoring Nex for declining her kind offer. Sage seemed to have a temper at times and it showed.

Raising his eyebrow at her sudden mood change he looked away with a light smile on his face as she ate with her dagger. He chuckled on the inside holding back a comment about how he was glad she washed her dagger before eating with it. Seeing that she was ignoring his as she ate he decided to read again in a comfortable silence with the sunset in the sky. Pulling out the book and holding it so the name was covered he read leaning on the tree just a bit away from her. So far the book interested him and he was glad he bought it.

The fish was gone as she finished up eating it. She felt content with food finally in her stomach. She pulled off the mat from the two sticks and crawled over to the pond quickly. She put the mat into the water letting it rush over it cleaning and cooling it down. She then rolled it up and crawled back to the tree placing it inside of her back pack. With a yawn she curled up against the tree covering herself completely in her cloak as it was a blanket to her. She pulled her backpack into her arms and against her stomach as if cuddling it and closed her eyes still feeling content and tired. The sun was now gone and she felt she must get sleep before it was time to meet the king.

Nex watched her carefully as she prepared herself and went to sleep. Dog earing the page he was on Nex looked up into the clear night sky staring at the moon. As his eyes roamed the stars silently naming constellations he thought to himself about the worlds state. So peaceful it seemed even when wars raged in distant lands. Sighing as he didn't feel tired he relaxed against the trees listening to the sounds of the forest looking over at Sage often.
An hour passed of him relaxing and he started to grow restless. Shifting positions he felt the sharp pain and tingling feeling of sleeping limbs. Standing up and shaking his legs to wake them up he went for a short walk to the other side of the small lake. Looking over the dark shimmering water he was satisfied that he could still see Sage laying curled up at the base of the tree. staring into the water and seeing the reflection of the night sky he smiled. The stars twinkled at him in the pond, almost as if contained by the water itself. kneeling down he scooped a handful of water and stood back up. Clearing his mind he kept the calm smile on his face as his hand grew the dark aura around it again. Sparkling like the night sky the glow over his hand waved in an invisible breeze. Slowly the glow grew covering the water. Smiling even more his eyes lit up in satisfaction as the water started to float up from his hand as if weightless. It expanded into hundreds of little black glowing droplets. He stared at them admiring their beauty before his face grew hard. The droplets which looks almost like round opal crystals began to shrink condensing into small hard balls of an unidentifiable substance. With a wave of his hands the hundreds of small balls shot into the trees dodging around them avoiding the trees. After a several hours of recreating the small hard pellets and shooting them into the forest he summoned them to his hand. With a thought they instantly turned back to water which he lazily tossed into the pond.
Looking up her saw the moon a small distance above the horizon. Now sign of sun but the moon definitely lowered. Walking over to Sage he knelt down and lightly touched her shoulder.

Still holding onto her shoulder he lightly shook her again and said quietly, "We need to get to the kings palace." He said. He knew that if she didn't wake up after this he would have to carry her until she woke. He would have just then but he had seen what she was capable of. And he really wasn't in the mood to be carrying her into the town to have himself spontaneously combust or have the dagger rammed up under his chin.

Covering his mouth with his free hand he muffled his chuckles. That was just to cute and funny. After reliving himself of his mirth he slowly scooped her into his arms. Because she was cuddling her bag she carried it. Adjusting himself to get use to the extra weight he started his trek to the castle. Knowing that she would wake up before then he didn't mind. And this way she could get more sleep because it was a long walk. Nodding with a black face to the guards he walked the empty streets carrying her. The only person he encountered besides guards was an old hag which just hissed at him before scurrying into an ally.

not to much longer till they reached the castle her eyes opened and she started to stretch in his arms. She stretched herself out to the point he couldn't hold onto her she jumped and landed to the ground on her feet as if she was getting out of a bed. She ruffled her hair then pulled the cloak over it. With a few ruffles to her clothing she was all straightened out and ready for the day. She walked alongside Nex as if nothing had happened a sleepy look to her face. The sun was just rising and its glare hurt her eyes so she made sure to have her hood hand down over her face and eyes.

Nex was startled by her jumping out of his arms but didn't let it deter him. Walking at the same pace he asked with a light chuckle in his voice. "Have a good sleep?" Turning forward he raised his hand to the sun as well. Copying Sage he pulled his hood up and covered his eyes from the sun. Looking around her noticed that the amount of guards increased. They must be getting close.

Sage broke into a run towards the castle. The energy from her last night meal kicking in. People parted as she dashed by them giggling. She turned her head back a couple times to look back at the path she made for Nex. She came to a halt at the doors of the castle as 2 paladin guards stood there and opened it letting her in as well as Nex. She smiled and winked to them as they seemed to be slightly flattered by her gesture and seemed to flush abit. She looked forward and started to march a smirk on her face hoping her childish ways and energy will throw off the king.
