"A World In Wastes" introduces a story in the year of 2099 where a Nuclear Holocaust called Judgment Day has left the World in ruins. Machines are out to terminate the remaining humans and all the creatures, monsters, and humans are out to survive in the Wastelands. The story is based on James Cameron’s “Terminator” and Bethesda Softworks “Fallout 3.” Essentially, the story is about Judgment Day in Terminator but thrown into the Fallout 3 Environment. NOTE: The Time, Year, Place, and Events vary from their original content. The year 2000 marked the start of what was known as the Genocide of Humanity. It was a day labelled throughout history as Judgement Day. It was the time in which technology and weapons designed for protection and national defense established the destruction of the world. Judgement Day would mark the end of the world with the extinction of civilization. It would begin with Skynet, the military computer software system based on defensive weapon systems that was operated by Cyberdyne Systems. The computers systems with their artificial intelligence became self-aware in a grew strength by 1990. The systems initial hostile takeover was prolonged when a Cyberdyne Facility was destroyed. The inevitable Judgment Day occurred in 2000 rather than in 1992 when the computer systems took full control their actions by launching and activating several nuclear ornaments simultaneously. The dropping of bombs from Skynet’s programming left the world in ruins and started a Nuclear Holocaust. The hostile takeover by computers did not go unnoticed as the leaders of nations ordered the creation of underground colonies called Vaults. To avoid the destructive damage some people sought shelter in Vaults while others perished in the explosions. Very few survived received high radiation poisoning become monsters known as ghouls. However, Skynet’s machines would begin terminating survivors. Eventually, the machines turned on one another and the focus on all things was to survive. Survive the horrors of the leftover world they called home. To survive in what remained, a world in ruins and chaos, a place called the Wastelands. The Wastelands became the most dangerous place. A place filled with creatures and machines, all fighting to survive. Everyone thought Judgment Day would end the world and that it was the extinction of mankind. However, the Nuclear Holocaust only added another bloody chapter to the World’s History. With most of the World destroyed and in ruins, fighting for surviving was the only mission objective. The year is now 2099, one hundred years after the start of Judgment Day. The world is still repairing itself from the destructive force of the Nuclear War. One Vault in the rubble of Washington DC is about to open, the colony of Vault: 101. The sealed door of Vault: 101 was designed by Vault-Tec was strong enough withstand many bomb blasts. It was unknown to most residents that Vault had been opened before. The Overseer and dictator of the Vault had secretly opened the Vault before. The citizens of the Vault are raised to believe that people are born in the Vault must also die in the Vault. No one from the outside gets in and no one from the inside gets out. Within the hundred years since Judgment Day, the Overseer is about to open the Vault again, yet this time to the public.

The gears of the large vault door grinded as it slid to the left revealing a large hole in the ground. A small corridor led from the vault’s entrance up to the Earth’s surface from a long tunnel. Several citizens of Vault: 101 wearing their blue vault jumpsuits with the yellow imprint of ‘101’ on the back stood watching the door open. Dust and dirt lifted from the ground in a cloud of smoke as the metal cylinder door opened. The citizens shouted and cheered with excitement as the door opened. With a loud thud the door slammed against the wall revealing the exit point. A few of the citizens immediately ran down the tunnel escaping from the underground shelter by entering the Wastelands. Some citizens where frozen with fear because the outside world scared them. Some people choose to remain behind and resigned in the vault as others took the opportunity to roam free. Moments passed and the lobby to the vault was clear, except for one resident who stood with a M1 Garand strapped to her back. The girl was named Sarafina and she was a 19-year-old Hispanic girl from Mexico with long black hair and blue eyes. She been outside the Vault before and understood the many dangers of the Wastelands. Having discovered creatures and mutants on her adventures out of the vault as a kid she knew what to expect as her insights where much higher than her fellow inhabitants of the Vault. She was not worried about the machines and dangers of the Wastelands because she had her grandfathers trusty service riffle. The M1 Garand was her weapon of choice as she was taught how to shoot at a young age. She had been waiting for the chance leave the Vault and was not hesitant to leave, she did however want to be prepared. Sarafina took a deep breathe and sighed heavily as she stepped out towards the Vaults exit. She pushed and weaved her way through the people now coming and going from the Vault. As she reached the final exit point down the corridor she watched as the last person moved into the vault. The Vault door roared as it began to shut. She turned her attention to the exit and left the underground bunker. As she stepped out into the Wastelands she was blinded by the bright light of the sun. It was the first time she had gazed at the sun in years. She shielded her eyes with her hand as she walked looking at the other vault residents scattering around. Walking along the used-to-be crumble of a sidewalk she followed it to her first landmark. She ducked down for a moment as an Enclave Eyebot flew past her head. It was playing some Enclave propaganda in which she ignored and moved towards the Springvale Elementary School.

From a distance Sarafina glared into the courtyard of the school. She could see a group of Raiders dressed in leathers and spikes camped out. One Raider was seen dragging a dead resident of vault: 101. The distinctive blue and yellow jumpsuits was stained red, and a make-shift bladed weapon was exposed from his chest. Sarafina wanted to avenge her fellow resident but decided to remain undetected. She was low on ammunition and her switchblade knife was no match for the number of Raiders. She avoided a hostile confrontation and moved away heading towards Megaton. She could see the town of Megaton ahead, yet it looked oddly different. Something was off and Sarafina was unable to tell. She really wanted to visit those she knew so she moved faster. When reaching Megaton, she had discovered that it had been reduced to a crater. She could see the burnt corpses and ruined buildings of the settlement. She turned her attention to one of her friends who was crawling on the ground moaning. Easily recognized by her RobCo Jumpsuit and voice it was the proprietor of Craterside Supply, Moira Brown. The woman stood up from the ground. She had not noticed that the destruction of Megaton had transformed her into a ghoul. Moira once had reddish brown hair and the cute face of a model. She could not feel the radiation around her as her skin was deteriorated and burned with parts of her bones showing. Her head was balding and squishy. She looked to see her friend Sarafina approaching. "Oh, hey there" Moira called. "How are you, Sarafina? It has been a while?" Sarafina hesitated to respond and stared at Moira as she continued to speak. "What's wrong? Aren't you glad to see me?" A piece of flesh fell from Moira’s face and landed on the ground in front of Sarafina.

"Umm… Moira, you look… different… a lot different.” Sarafina mentioned as she could help but cringe from Moira's decaying body. "You’re not looking so great… you look like something from a Monster movie." Sarafina picked up a piece of glass from the ground and held it in front of Moira’s face. She stared deeply into the image of her hideous face. “I think you are suffering from… uhg… ghoulification.” Sarafina added. Moira investigated the glass and saw her reflection. She took a step back and gasped before looking again. She began feeling her head. “Is that me?" she asked touching the glass. "I've, I've... I've become a, a... a monster." Moira did not seem to be phased by her situation. Her demeanor changed quickly as she spoke again. “Oh dear, this means I won't getting that date tonight." She looked over at a skeleton that was laying face down with his bones crushed under a large rock. “Such a nice fella too… Wait... this means I'm single again... What will I ever do with myself?" Sarafina facepalmed at Moira's comment with a slight laugh. She tossed the glass to the ground and examined the environment. “Moira, what happen here?” Sarafina asked looking into the ruins of Megaton. Moira looked into the sky. It was still black and gray from the explosion of Megaton. The blast had to have happened not to long ago. "Well," Moira stated. "I suppose that large bomb finally detonated." She scratched her burnt skin on her right arm as it was irritated with a black and red rash. "I stepped outside the Creators Supply and saw a man around the bomb. Never seen him before. He moved quickly doing something to the explosive and then ran off. Shortly after that it must have gone off… Might have been one of those Children of Atom followers I don’t know." A cloud of radiation filled the air. Moira took a deep breath and inhaled. "Ah, fresh air." she called breathing in the contaminated air. Sarafina held her hand over her mouth protecting herself from the radiation. "Come on Moira” Sarafina said coughing under her breath. “This place is invested with rads, your only immune to it because you’re a ghoul. We need to get out of here.”

Sarafina grabbed Moira by the hand and began to walk. On there walk they moved along a broken path. Three robots could be seen ahead. Two of them were Protections. They moved slow hobbling on two short thin legs with similar arms. Their heads looked like a siren. The third one was a Robobrain resembling a trash can on tank treads with vacuum tube arms. Its head was a glass bowl where a human brain was encased in a liquid gel. As Moira and Sarafina got closer and the robots scanned the area for lifeforms. The head of one of the Protections began to flash yellow as its scanners detected the presence of Moira and Sarafina. "Threat detected" a Protectron alerted. "Surrender, we don't want to hurt you..." The Robobrain said as it fired a red beam in front of Sarafina. "What are we going to do?" Moira asked as she and Sarafina took cover behind a large boulder. "If I can get close enough behind them, I can deactivate them.” Moira added. “But there is three of them." "Don't want to hurt us” Sarafina huffed. “Is that why they shoot at us!" Sarafina glanced over the boulder while arming herself with her riffle. She took aim and lined her sights. "Alright Moira, I'm going to run out and give pop shots to distract them. When I do run the other way. They shouldn’t bother you if their focus is on me." Sarafina fired her riffle at the robots and Moira ran for it when she found a clearing. The Protectrons shots bolts of plasma at the boulder and Sarafina took cover. Sarafina's idea appeared to work on the two Protectrons as they retaliated fire. However, the Robobrain saw Moira running and was far more intelligent. It moved after her. Sarafina was pinned down unable to respond. The Robobrain fired a shot nearly hitting Moira. "Come back and play" the Robobrain called Moira keep running in terror from side to side. She looked back as she ran until she collided into a solid figure. Moira fell to the ground and looked up. Her jaw dropped as she spotted a woman. The woman looked to be about eighteen or nineteen and stood in her black leather boots and pants paired with a purple leather jacket over top a black t-shirt. She was looking directly at the approaching Robobrain. She lifted the Laser Riffle and blasted the Robobrain in the head. The shot blasted through the brain casing and melted the brain. Several volts surged through it's metal body. "I'll miss you'" it called out exploded. The woman extended her hand down to Moira. Moira examined her. She was toneless, her face showed no form of expression, and her body didn't move. Moira grabbed her hand; it was cold and strong. Pulling Moira from the ground she began moving towards Sarafina. Lazer bolts struck both Potectrons and the robots turned their attention their new assailant. With the Protectrons distracted Sarafina aimed and shot their power couplings located at the back of their heads. Sparks from the robots zapped from their heads and they went into a permanent shutdown. The woman stood in front of Sarafina as Moira regrouped. The women’s movements appeared robotic in nature. Showing no emotion, she introduced herself. “I am Cameron, and I’m here to serve and protect.”
